Full-day Tokyo discovery: Tradition meets Tomorrow

Tokyo, Japan’s dazzling capital, is a city like no other — a vast, ever-moving metropolis where centuries-old traditions meet the pulse of the future. From its iconic cultural landmarks and neon-lit skylines to hidden culinary treasures, high-tech marvels, and endless shopping streets, Tokyo delivers a sensory feast that words alone can’t capture — it has to be experienced to be believed.
After a delightful breakfast at the hotel, the group will meet our expert local guide in the lobby and set off on a full-day discovery tour. We begin in the chic Ginza district, renowned for its luxury boutiques, artisanal craft stores, and elegant art galleries. As we wander its polished avenues, take in the perfect balance of sleek modern design and timeless craftsmanship that makes Ginza such an iconic Tokyo neighborhood.

By midday, we’ll pause for a specially curated lunch at a local restaurant where authentic Japanese flavors are reimagined with contemporary flair — a meal as memorable as the city itself. Energized and inspired, we continue to TeamLab Borderless, Tokyo’s globally celebrated digital art museum. Here, step into an otherworldly playground of light, sound, and movement, where interactive installations respond to your very presence. The result is a breathtaking, dreamlike environment that dissolves the line between art and technology — an experience that stirs both wonder and imagination.

Later, the group will be introduced to the delicate art of Kintsugi — the centuries-old Japanese philosophy of repairing broken pottery with lacquer sprinkled with gold, silver, or platinum. Whether through a live demonstration or a thoughtfully curated visit to a specialty studio, this encounter reveals more than just a technique: it is a meditation on imperfection, resilience, and the quiet beauty found in life’s fractures. Far more than a restoration technique, Kintsugi reflects a deeper appreciation for imperfection and the beauty of resilience.

Our day will end approximately around 5PM; with the remainder of the evening at leisure to explore further the Ginza district or other Tokyo neighborhoods on your own, diving deeper into all its hidden gems, or simply relax at the hotel with a cocktail or try one of the local fabulous restaurants as you wish.

Arrival into Okinawa – Island Extension begins

For those extending with us into Okinawa, after breakfast you will be met in the lobby of the Osaka Marriott for the transfer to the Osaka Itami Airport by private coach. Board a scheduled commercial flight for the one-way journey from Osaka to Naha, Okinawa (flight will be arranged by our tour operations team; flight is 2-hrs non-stop). Upon arrival into Naha, you will be welcomed by your guide in the arrival hall and depart by private coach to begin your island orientation sightseeing.

Our first stop will be Naminoue Shrine, beautifully situated on a high cliff overlooking Naminoue Beach and the ocean. For centuries, sailors entering or leaving Naha Port looked up to the shrine, offering prayers for safe voyages, abundant catches, and prosperous harvests. Continue on to Sefa Utaki, one of Okinawa s most important sacred sites and a designated World Heritage location. Deeply rooted in the indigenous Okinawan religion, this forested hillside sanctuary features striking rock formations linked by peaceful walking trails, with a strong emphasis on the worship of nature. The group will enjoy a lunch “on your own” with the guide’s recommendations at a lovely stop during this day’s touring.

After our explorative day, transfer to the group hotel (the Halekulani Okinawa) for check-in. Remainder of the late afternoon and evening is at leisure to unwind and enjoy the resort’s property. This evening enjoy dinner in the hotel or at a local recommended restaurant (the Concierge desk at the hotel can happily make reservations for you).

The village consists of approximately 70 artisan pottery workshops that are nestled in the mountains is Yachimun-no-Sato, where 19 of these workshops are gathered all together. Stroll through the studios at your own pace and discover unique pottery pieces to admire or take home.

Afterwards, we will continue by private coach to Kokusai Street, the bustling heart of Okinawa’s downtown Naha. The Art of Dining & Tea

The Dining & Tea Experiences in Japan

On this memorable journey through Japan’s highlights, you will experience the Art of Japanese food and taste why Japan is a destination where the food is an adventure all unto itself.

The dining experience in Japan is diverse, ranging from casual ramen shops, sushi conveyor belt diners, to street food and elaborate multi-course presentation meals. Open kitchens are common, allowing diners to witness the preparation, and long queues at popular spots are part of the experience. Kaiseki is a multi-course, highly ritualized dining experience that focuses on seasonal ingredients and exquisite presentation; whereas Ramen and Udon noodles, sushi, and bento boxes are popular choices for those who want quick-service meals (but these are also very common and considered appropriate for Japanese breakfasts). For beef lovers, there is of course the world-renowned Wagyu beef that includes the legendary Kobe, Matsusaka and Ohmi breeds. Shabu Shabu are fun hot-pot bowls showcasing fresh vegetables and a variety of meets simmered in hot broths with various dipping sauces; whereas Sukiyaki style dishes are slowly simmered vegetables and meats cooked in a skillet and served with savory sweet-soy broths. Then there are the Izakayas – the traditional Japanese pubs – that offer a wide variety of local dishes alongside alcoholic beverages. In addition, it’s a must-do Japanese experience to visit open air food and fish markets to nibble your way through various regional delicacies; and the legendary street foods known as Yakitori (chicken skewers), Dango (sweet dumplings), Takoyaki (dough balls stuffed with octopus), Taiyaki (fish-shaped waffles that are savory sweet), and a variety of Senbi (rice crackers), tempura vegetables and Okinamiyaki (Japanese pancakes). But there is one meal lesser-known meal that every visitor should save room for – the simple homestyle favorite of aji fry teishoku (flaky crispy fried mackerel severed with white rice, miso soup and pickles). The Japanese also have a sweet tooth, so expect magnificent parfaits, cakes, puddings, mochi and unique baked treats.

On this adventure you will also have opportunities to experience the art of The Japanese Tea.

Things to know about Japanese Tea: Ocha means literally “tea” in Japanese, but specifically refers to Japanese tea, which is by default Japanese Green tea. Sencha is Japan’s most popular classic steamed green tea and the vast majority of what is produced in Japan, as such the word Sencha also means “tea”. Then there are 16 varieties of Japanese teas in either leaf or powder forms – such as Matcha, Tencha, Ryokucha, among the most popular and famous; while Mecha which is “bud tea” is one of the rarer tea varieties, and Genmaicha is one of the most unique types of tea blends mixed with roasted puffed brown rice bits. For a caffeine-free relaxation, try Sobacha (a buckwheat tea herbal infusion) or Mugicha (made form roasted barley); and for a refreshing jolt try Kombucha (a fermented, effervescent, sweetened black tea drink).

Japan is also a cultural drinking country, famous for its artisan beers and sakes, including signature cocktails that are stunning works of art. The Japanese love their cocktails so much that, in fact the finer dining establishments require that nonalcoholic options be ordered in advance, otherwise they are not available on the menu. However in the majority of establishments, low-alcohol cocktails and mocktails are becoming more popular, and are served with the same artistic Japanese precision.
