Activity Level

To experience this unique destination, you will need to be able to walk at least 30-45 minutes at a time over a variety of terrains – from cobblestones streets to easy straightaways, city blocks to hillsides and flights of stairs. You can expect some longer guided days, balanced with ample free time to relax or set out on your own to explore each city and/or region. Some of the touring days have pre-planned select included group activities in addition to occasional meals together as a group. Guests should bring adequate sun protection, appropriate layers and sturdy walking shoes adequate for walking and climbing on uneven surfaces.

ARRIVAL INTO AUCKLAND, NEW ZEALAND

Our Adventure begins today with international flight arrivals into Auckland (The City of Sails) per your preferred carrier. Upon arrival at the Airport, Collette Tours will meet and greet all participants, and ground transfer to the group hotel. Auckland’s Polynesian heritage instills a vibrant feel of the Pacific Islands adding to its chic cosmopolitan ambiance. The remainder of the day is free to relax or explore the city on your own depending on flight arrival time. This evening, join your fellow adventurers for a wonderful Welcome Dinner. Overnight at the Stamford Plaza Auckland Hotel. (Dinner included)

AUCKLAND MORNING EXPLORATION & FREE TIME

Enjoy breakfast and afterwards experience an insightful morning exploration of Auckland with our guide. Discover the best of the city during a panoramic city tour featuring the America’s Cup Village, the War Memorial, bustling Queen Street, and the Auckland Harbour Bridge. The afternoon is on your own with free-time to try one of the fabulous local restaurants and further explore Auckland on your own. DEPART AUCKLAND – JOURNEY TO BAY OF ISLANDS

This morning after breakfast, we will depart Auckland and travel north to the Bay of Islands. We will spend the next two days exploring this marvelous sun-soaked region that boasts more than 144 islands and enjoy the warm waters with abundant marine life. Upon arrival we will visit the Waitangi Treaty House, the site where Maori and British leaders signed the 1840 treaty establishing New Zealand as a nation. This evening we will enjoy a lovely group dinner. Overnight at Copthorne Bay of Islands Resort. (Breakfast and dinner included)

BAY OF ISLANDS MORNING CRUISE & FREE TIME

Following breakfast, we will depart our hotel to venture and enjoy a scenic cruise that features the Bay’s famous Hole in the Rock. We will marvel at the views and look-out at the Cape Brett Lighthouse, standing nearly 500 feet above sea level at the edge of the Cape Brett Peninsula. The remainder of the day is free to relax or independently explore Paihia – the quaint town known as “the jewel of the Bay of Islands.” Overnight at Copthorne Bay of Islands Resort. DEPART THE BAY – TO MATAKOHE & ROTORUA

After breakfast we will depart the Bay of Islands and journey to Matakohe in the heartland of the North Island. We will make a relaxing stop at the Kauri Museum and learn the history surrounding the unique giant kauri tree that has lived for 2,000 years. Through storytelling we will discover how the early settlers used this abundant tree to build a life for themselves. Afterwards we will continue onward to Rotorua, known for its geothermal activity and enriching Maori culture. This evening we will enjoy a group dinner. Overnight at Millenium Hotel Rotorua. EXPLORE ROTORUA & MAORI CULTURE

Enjoy breakfast this morning, followed by an in-depth exploration of the area. Amid the dramatic geothermal landscape of Rotorua, known as the Maori capital of New Zealand, we will be enriched by authentic Maori heritage and practices. We will visit Te Puia, New Zealand’s premier Maori cultural and geothermal experience; in addition we will visit The National Carving School and National Weaving School to view age-old customs in their folk art exhibits and how they have passed down age-old customs. Encounter with real kiwi birds and learn what is being done to help this endangered species. In the evening, we will experience a once-in-a-lifetime authentic Hangi dinner showecasing ceremonial Maori rituals in a memorable performance. Overnight at Millenium Hotel Rotorua. DEPART ROTORUA – JOURNEY TO WELLINGTON

After breakfast, we will depart Rotorua and travel to Wellington, a coastal city nestled against beautiful mountains. Embark on a picturesque sightseeing tour of New Zealand’s “Windy City.” We will visit the Beehive – New Zealand’s Parliament; historic St. Paul’s Church; and the Old Government Building, the largest wooden building in the Southern Hemisphere, along with other sites and attractions. Late afternoon there will be time to freshen up before enjoying a group dinner this evening. Overnight at Novotel Wellington. (Breakfast and dinner included)

WELLINGTON CITY EXCURSION & FREE TIME

Following breakfast, we will depart the hotel for a guided city exploration of Wellington, that includes a visit to the Te Papa Tongawera Museum, a fascinating center dedicated to art, history, and the Maori culture. Afterwards the remainder of the day is free to relax or explore the area further with lunch on your own. With your free time, perhaps take a thrilling scenic ride upon the Wellington Cable Car to the suburb of Kelburn for stunning panoramic views of the city (minimal cost on your own). DEPART WELLINGTON – FERRY TO PICTON & CHRISTCHURCH

Enjoy breakfast this morning and depart Wellington. We will board a ferry and journey across the famous Cook Strait, to experience what is considered to be one of the most beautiful ferry rides in the world. Arrive in Picton on the South Island where you will have free time for a lunch on your own. We will continue afterwards on our journey along the breathtaking east coast to the largest city on the South Island, Christchurch. Evening at leisure to try one of the local wonderful restaurants. CHRISTCHURCH SIGHTSEEING & FREE TIME

After breakfast we will depart the hotel to discover the lovely city of Christchurch, the “Garden City,” which has been reinventing itself after a devastating earthquake in 2011. Experience firsthand the remarkable recovering city on a guided sightseeing tour that highlights the city’s magnificent gardens and elegant park district. Pay a visit to Willowbank Wildlife Reserve, a leader in the conservation of New Zealand species. Here, you’ll have the chance to view New Zealand’s “Big 5” – kiwi, kaka, tuatara, kea, and takahe – up close and personal. DEPART CHRISTCHURCH – JOURNEY TO MT COOK

Enjoy breakfast this morning before we journey through New Zealand’s unspoiled wilderness and arrive in the Mt. Cook region, where permanent ice fields and glaciers blanket the ragged peaks. The Maori word for Mt. Cook is Aoraki, which means “cloud piercer.” This is where famed New Zealand mountaineer Sir Edmund Hillary honed his skills before conquering Everest. We will enjoy a guided serene nature walk to meditate on the beauty of the Southern Alps. An optional Glacier Flightseeing Tour will be available locally to opt-into should you wish to enjoy this exhilarating experience (weather permitting). DEPART MT COOK REGION – TRAVEL TO DUNEDIN

Enjoy breakfast before we depart for our journey to charming Dunedin, a Scottish-influenced gem of a town situated on the southeast coast of New Zealand. One of the earliest European settlements on the islands, Dunedin holds proudly to its Scottish heritage and traditions. Enjoy ample free time to explore this cultural city on your own. This evening enjoy a wonderful group dinner. Overnight at Scenic Hotel Southern Cross. (Breakfast and dinner included)

DUNEDIN SIGHTSEEING & FREE TIME


After breakfast we will start our morning with a panoramic tour of Dunedin, visiting Larnach Castle and Baldwin Street – the world’s steepest public road. Later, spend time at the Royal Albatross Centre, the only mainland breeding location in the world of these otherworldly birds. Albatrosses are the focus in many seafaring myths of this region, and their epic wingspan can reach nearly 10 feet. Enjoy the remainder of the day at leisure to relax or further explore, with lunch and dinner on your own. Overnight at Scenic Hotel Southern Cross. (Breakfast included)

DEPART DUNEDIN – TRAVEL TO QUEENSTOWN

After breakfast, we will depart the hotel and leave beautiful Dunedin behind. As we journey towards Queenstown, we will encounter the rugged grandeur of the Hollyford Valley and the Homer Tunnel. Upon arrival into Queenstown, marvel at this magnificent mountainside town set against the shores of Lake Wakatipu. The rest of your day free to explore the city dubbed the “adventure capital of the world” and relax with the evening free to try one of the favorite local restaurants. QUEENSTOWN & EXCURSION TO MILFORD SOUND

Enjoy breakfast this morning and afterwards depart the hotel for a memorable breathtaking cruise of the beautiful Milford Sound. We will encounter one of the most visited sites on the South Island, a stunning fjordland, with rock faces that rise nearly 4,000 feet on either side…the scenery will take your breath away. On our return to Queenstown we will stop for a lovely group lunch. Remainder of the late afternoon at leisure in Queenstown to enjoy the charm of this city and relax. Dinner on your own. QUEENSTOWN & LAKE WAKATIPU EXPLORATION

After breakfast we depart the hotel for a fabulous day of exploration – we will cruise upon Lake Wakatipu and head to Mt. Nicholas High Country Farm, a family- owned merino sheep farm. En route, see the Cecil Peak, Bob’s Cove and Mt. Earnslaw. During our visit, we will get a behind-the-scenes glimpse at the process from mustering sheep to the creation of wool garments. Enjoy a fresh farmer’s lunch before we sail back to Queenstown. Later, enjoy a “YOUR CHOICE” Excursion – Choose either (1) Go bird watching at the Kiwi Birdlife Park -OR- (2) take a gondola to Bob’s Peak for stunning views of the area. Depart the hotel this morning after breakfast for group ground transportation to the Nadi Airport. Please note check-out is 11AM, therefore you may have a long wait at the airport depending on your flight departure time. Please note: Most flights from Fiji to LAX and other major connection cities depart in the late evening from Fiji. To allow our guests added comfort while waiting for your late flight, if you would like to extend your room reservation through 6pm in order to enjoy another day relaxing by the pool or any last minute sightseeing, you may do so by booking the Sofitel “DAY ROOM” Option noted below. Would you like to extend the Adventure with an additional night on either end of the tour?  Depending on your arrival and departure flight needs, pre and post nights accommodations can be added on with our Adventure group hotels. Any traveler that elects not to purchase travel insurance, by either of the above means, agrees to release THIRDHOME from liability for any loss of funds incurred due to the cancellation of a specific THIRDHOME Adventure as a result of, but not limited to, an act of God, a failure to purchase travel insurance, the cessation of business with respect to a tour operator/ground operator, the failure of a tour operator/ground operator to refund consumer deposits or payments within 120 days following the cancellation of a THIRDHOME Adventure or a material failure to complete performance of a THIRDHOME Adventure.
