AN ARTIC REINDEER SAFARI

Dare to venture out into Finland’s remote Arctic and go in search of the shimmering aurora borealis (northern lights). Experience this natural phenomenon of dazzling electrically charged particles from the sun entering into the Earth’s atmosphere set within the backdrop of a winter-wonderland. Visit the Finnish metropolitan city of Helsinki to enjoy a cultural guided tour of its highlights with an expert insider. Savor the local cuisine in the city’s wonderful restaurants. Explore rugged Lapland during a 3-night stay in the northern region of Finland. Encounter the charming Sami culture of Lapland and learn their history and way of life. Embark on an unforgettable reindeer safari with a local farmer. Adventure further out and mush your way to breakfast in a Finnish sleigh, and embark on a husky safari with your own dog sled. Overnight in a glass igloo surrounded by the wonderland wilderness and stay in a Finnish log cabin too. Come face-to-face with Santa Claus in his official home as you wander within his magical village. Taste authentic Finnish winter treats and sip a traditional warm berry juice. GROUP SIZE

This is a private THIRDHOME small-group tour itinerary with a maximum occupancy of 18-24 participants which provides our travelers access into Finland’s most appealing locales. The group size is kept small, allowing this Adventure to be the most engaging and rewarding experience possible. On this active, immersive journey, travelers will connect with the culture and terrains of Finland in a deeper more authentic way.

ACTIVITY LEVEL

To truly experience this Finland adventure, you need to be able to participate in physical activities such as longer walking tours, hiking over uneven terrain, riding in sleighs and exploring the unique terrains with husky dogs and Arctic reindeer. You must be able to endure very cold climates. Some of the touring days may be longer, with select included activities occurring later in the evening.

Tour begins in Helsinki

Hei Helsinki! Finland’s vibrant capital welcomes you, where history converges with unique architectural and urban, surrounded by Finland’s beautiful arctic landscapes and pristine vistas. This evening, gather with new friends for a welcome dinner in the city center. Hyvää ruokahalua! (Bon appetit!) Overnight at Lilla Roberts Hotel. (D included)

Helsinki City Touring

This morning after breakfast, join a local expert for an engaging city tour to explore its hidden charm. If Finland’s heart beats in Helsinki, then Helsinki’s beat is in Senate Square, home of Helsinki Cathedral, the city’s most iconic building, designed by famous architect Carl Ludvig Engel. Walk the streets of empiric-designed Tori Quarters before enjoying some free time in Market Square, the city’s most famous international market. Here you will have time to stroll the vendors and perhaps taste some local treats. Later Visit the elaborate and ornate villas of Kaivopuisto Park. During your leisure time, explore more of Helsinki independently if you wish with recommendations from your local guide. Overnight at Lilla Roberts Hotel. (B included)

Depart Helsinki for the Arctic Lapland

Depart the city and begin your memorable adventure as you escape into northernmost Finland’s winter wonderland on-board a short flight to Ivalo and magical Lapland. Like a storybook come to life, Lapland’s culture is steeped in myth and legend. Relish encounters with reindeer and unspoiled views of the northern lights. At the breathtaking Kakslauttanen Arctic Resort, spend two nights in your very own Finnish log cabin indulging in your very own traditional sauna and other unique amenities. After getting settled in, depart with your guide an trek north toward Inari to chase the dancing and dazzling northern lights. Stops along the pursuit allow you the chance for a front-row seat at nature’s phenomenal electric light show. Overnight at Kakslauttanen Arctic Resort – West Village. (B/D included)

Santa Claus’ Home & Reindeer Safari

This morning you’ll hit the snow departing Kakslauttanen, and mush to breakfast aboard an authentic Finnish sleigh. You will head further north to the home of Santa Claus, an epicenter of Christmas cheer. Among prancing reindeer and charming elves, learn about Santa’s origins during a meet and greet with the Jolliest of Men at his house. Later in the afternoon, under the Arctic moonlight, a reindeer farmer introduces you to some of the local Lappish reindeer that will escort you on an exhilarating reindeer safari through the remote and breathtaking landscapes surrounding Kakslauttanen. Gain insight into the importance of reindeer herding to the Sámi indigenous culture. Sip a delicious warm berry juice, a Finnish tradition, under the cover of blankets in the surround of northern Finland’s unspoiled wilderness as you continue the search for the elusive northern lights. Husky Safari & Northern Lights

After breakfast embark on a new arctic exploration! Breathe in the fresh air and gain an introduction to the equipment for the mode of transportation today as you step into the role as leader of your own dog sled team. Zoom through the wilderness on a husky safari, driving your loyal husky dog-guides that are as fast as they are adorable (of course you will be with an expert guide leading the pack throughout the ride). Spend some time getting to know these amazing dogs and learn their language with uniquely different commands. Enjoy your last night in the heart of the Lappish wilderness, nestled in your incredible – and private – glass igloo – where you may even see the northern lights dancing overhead. Arctic Lapland – Return to Helsinki

This morning after breakfast, say good-bye to the enchanting arctic wonderland of Lapland and fly back to Helsinki. Enjoy the afternoon at leisure – either relax or further explore what you didn’t get to see before. Stroll the city’s central squares and get in tune with the latest Finnish trends found within its charming shops. Tonight, in downtown Helsinki, toast to your past and future grand adventures with your friends at a finale dinner. Overnight at Lilla Roberts Hotel. (B/D included)

Departure from Helsinki to home

Following breakfast, you will depart the hotel with your guide for transfer to the Helsinki Airport. Check-in for your return flight home. (B included)
